On the occasion of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week, dedicated this year to artificial intelligence in the media, ALIA is launching its first social media awareness campaign about the use of AI-generated content.
This initiative is part of our mission to promote media literacy and also prepares for ALIA’s future responsibilities related to the implementation of the European AI Act.
Social networks are already flooded with AI-generated content. Such material often aims to capture attention but can also be used to deceive or manipulate. Beyond social media—for example, in advertising—AI-generated creations are also rapidly multiplying.
The AI Act will soon require that these contents be clearly labelled as AI-generated.
Even though the law is not yet in effect, we already recommend that anyone producing content with the help of AI begin adopting this practice now.
It is a matter of transparency, trust, and protection against disinformation, essential for safeguarding our democratic society.
The AI Act will also include bans on manipulative deepfakes and deepnudes, which cause serious personal and social harm.
In the coming months, ALIA will continue to inform and raise awareness about developments in this area.
