ALIA welcomed students from the Master’s program in European Governance at the University of Luxembourg for an exchange session on the Luxembourg media landscape, its European dimension, and the Authority’s future missions. The discussions focused in particular on the following topics:
-
A unique and cross-border media landscape, where a small national market coexists with numerous media service providers established in the country but targeting audiences in other Member States.
-
Thanks to the country-of-origin principle, services established in Luxembourg can broadcast throughout the European Union under a single regulatory framework, ensuring consistency and legal certainty.
-
The new draft law marks a major evolution in media regulation by expanding ALIA’s competences to all media formats, including online content, while ensuring technological neutrality.
-
Within the framework of the EMFA, ALIA actively participates in the European Board for Media Services, where regulators collaborate on cross-border issues, assess the AVMS Directive, and issue opinions on media concentrations.
-
ALIA plays a central role in the future regulation of artificial intelligence, with the obligation to clearly label deepfakes, particularly during elections, in order to ensure transparency, the integrity of information, and public trust.
