On May 5, ALIA, in partnership with the Zentrum fir politesch Bildung and the Press Council, held the first session of the IFEN-workshop “Media in the Classroom: Understanding the Fourth Estate with Your Students.” The session focused on the role of the press in a digital democracy and the major challenges currently facing the news industry.
Topics covered during this first session included:
- the role of the media as the “fourth estate”;
- the main actors in Luxembourg’s media and digital information landscape;
- criteria for assessing the reliability of information;
- journalistic ethics, media regulation, and self-regulation.
The second part of the training will take place next week. Participants will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes of a newsroom and exchange directly with professional journalists about their working methods and the realities of the profession today.
Given the rapid evolution of the media environment and digital practices, this workshop will now be offered twice a year.
