Give Luxembourg’s Media Sector a Voice in Brussels

Give Luxembourg’s Media Sector a Voice in Brussels

The European Board for Media Services (Media Board), established under the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), plays a key role in developing opinions and guidance that shape the media landscape across Europe. To support this work, the Media Board relies on a diverse range of stakeholders who contribute expertise and perspectives.

A visibility challenge for Luxembourg

Luxembourg’s media sector is directly affected by the work of the Media Board’s work. However, to date, no Luxembourg-based stakeholder is included among the organisations consulted. To address this imbalance, the Media Board has launched a call for expressions of interest to broaden the range of profiles represented.

Eligible applicants notably include:

  • public and private media organisations, including print and online media;
  • journalists’ associations, trade unions, and press councils;
  • universities, research centres, and professional organisations linked to the cultural and media sectors.

Beyond simple participation, this call offers a strategic opportunity to ensure that the specific characteristics of the Luxembourg market – multilingualism, market size, and digital transformation – are reflected within an important European policy framework.

What this means in practice

Selected organisations may be consulted, on a case-by-case basis, to contribute to draft Media Board opinions, sectoral analyses, or discussions on cross-cutting issues such as pluralism, platforms, media concentration, and foreign interference. Participation remains flexible: it does not confer formal advisory body status, nor does it create any obligation to respond systematically.

How to apply

Interested organisations are invited to submit an expression of interest to the Media Board Secretariat at , briefly presenting their mission, media-related activities, and areas of expertise. Applications will be assessed based on their relevance, geographical and sectoral balance, and the expertise provided.

ALIA strongly encourages relevant Luxembourg stakeholders to consider applying and can provide guidance upon request.

The full text of the “Call for Expression of Interest” is available on the Media Board’s website. Although the call mentions a deadline of 30 September 2025, the Media Board has clarified that applications remain open and may be submitted at any time.
