International Conference on the Governance of Digital Platforms

ALIA took part in the International Conference on the Governance of Digital Platforms, organised by the Croatian Electronic Media Agency (AEM) with the support of UNESCO, which was held on 18 and 19 June in Dubrovnik

On the occasion of the International Day Against Hate Speech, celebrated on 18 June, media regulators and online governance experts met to exchange strategies and perspectives on the protection of freedom of expression and the right to information in the face of the rise of hate speech, xenophobia and online discrimination.
The second day of the conference, 19 June, was specifically dedicated to the regulator community. The contributions of the founding members of the Global Forum of Networks (GFN) and selected guests allowed for in-depth discussions, based on the UNESCO guidelines for the governance of digital platforms, developed in November 2023.
The launch of the ‘Global Forum of Networks of Regulators’ marked a key moment in the conference, creating a global collaborative space for the exchange of best practices in the regulation of digital platforms, which will serve as a framework for future discussions.
The discussions emphasised the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach and respect for human rights in meeting the global challenge of creating a safer, fairer and more inclusive digital environment for all.
ALIA remains committed to participating in future discussions and encouraging collaborative efforts and the search for common solutions regarding the governance of digital platforms within this global network.
