“Deepfakes” and AI Labelling in the Media

“Deepfakes” and AI Labelling in the Media

Awareness campaign

On the occasion of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week, dedicated this year to artificial intelligence in the media, ALIA is launching its first awareness campaign on social media about the use of AI-generated content.

This initiative is part of our mission of media education and also prepares for ALIA’s future responsibilities related to the implementation of the European AI Act.

Social networks are already full of AI-generated content. Such content often aims to capture attention but can also be used to deceive or manipulate. Beyond social media, for example in advertising, AI-generated creations are also multiplying.

The AI Act will in the future require that such content be clearly labeled as “AI-generated.”

Even though the law is not yet in force, we already recommend that everyone producing content with the help of AI begin adopting this practice now.

It is a matter of transparency, trust, and also protection against misinformation and the safeguarding of our democratic society.

The AI Act will also include bans, such as on manipulative deepfakes or deepnudes, which cause serious personal and social harm.

In the coming months, ALIA will continue to inform and raise awareness about developments on this topic.
