Meeting between ALIA and the Directorate for Consumer Protection

Meeting between ALIA and the Directorate for Consumer Protection

ALIA welcomed Martine Hansen, Minister for Consumer Protection, for a working meeting focusing on several topics of shared interest.

The discussions addressed in particular recent developments related to artificial intelligence, notably deepfakes, commercial practices observed in the gaming sector, as well as issues relating to the protection of vulnerable audiences, especially minors.

This meeting highlighted the convergence of assessments by ALIA and the Directorate for Consumer Protection regarding the challenges posed by the rapid evolution of the digital environment. In this context, it was agreed to organise a dedicated working session focusing on risks associated with the gaming sector, in particular in relation to in-game purchases and mechanisms likely to influence consumer behaviour.

This next step will aim to further analyse these issues, identify possible preventive measures and examine the modalities for strengthened cooperation between ALIA and the Directorate for Consumer Protection, with the shared objective of enhancing consumer protection and information.
