A report that reflects the importance of the extent of media monitoring of election campaigns

ALIA has submitted its report on the media election campaign for the parliamentary elections of 8 October 2023 to the Chamber of Deputies

Thierry Hoscheit, President of the Luxembourg Independent Media Authority (ALIA), presented the Authority’s report on 11 June 2024 to Claude Wiseler, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and to Laurent Scheeck, Secretary General.
The preparation of the ALIA report is part of its mission to monitor election campaigns in the media. The primary objective of this mission is to guarantee listeners and viewers diverse political information that is representative of the different currents of political expression.
Thierry Hoscheit emphasised the importance of broader monitoring during election campaigns. Traditionally focused on public service media, ALIA’s mission should now also include monitoring social networks and other audiovisual media, which political parties are increasingly using to conduct their campaigns. This extension is necessary to ensure effective monitoring.
Claude Wiseler stated that this subject will have to be discussed within the Media and Communications Commission in the Chamber in order to review certain aspects of ALIA’s missions, in particular the monitoring of election campaigns.
