Publication of the 2023 annual report of the ALIA

The new report provides a detailed overview of the activities, challenges and achievements of the ALIA over the past year.
Among the highlights of the report is the reform of the 1991 electronic media legislation, highlighting the changes needed to adapt to technological and societal developments. The report also highlights the Authority’s efforts to promote media literacy among citizens. Together with ALIA’s other activities on the European and international stage, cooperation with the various regulatory authorities and participation in international forums allows for exchanges on topics such as the protection of minors, the fight against disinformation and the legal framework for artificial intelligence (AI). With regard to AI, the report identifies the opportunities associated with this emerging technology, such as the use of AI as a surveillance tool.
In addition to the supervision and regulation of audiovisual media services, media monitoring during election periods was another key focus of the Authority’s activities in 2023. The Act of 22 July 2022 assigned to the ALIA the task of organising the media election campaigns broadcast through the public service media. In this respect, the Authority not only drew up guidelines, but also monitored their proper application during the election campaigns and subsequently drew up reports on the conduct of the media campaigns.
