13 February marks UNESCO World Radio Day – a good opportunity to take a look at Luxembourg’s diverse radio landscape. With a total of 19 radio services, including 11 local radio stations, 4 regional radio stations and 4 national radio stations, Luxembourg offers its listeners a wide range of programmes that serve as a daily source of information and entertainment and as a forum for cultural and creative exchanges, thus reflecting Luxembourg society in all its diversity. Thanks in particular to the linguistic diversity, which goes beyond the three official languages of Luxembourg to include the many languages spoken by Luxembourg residents of diverse origins, radio in Luxembourg offers, more than any other medium, a platform conducive to cultural exchange, diversity, inclusion and social cohesion.
Such a rich Luxembourgish radio landscape is largely made possible thanks to the presenters, journalists, as well as the many volunteers and all the actors involved in the world of radio, offering listeners captivating programmes, reliable news and information and music that livens up our days.
On this day dedicated to radio, let us salute a medium which, even in a constantly evolving media landscape, has remained a faithful companion for listeners for over a century, thus maintaining its role of informing, entertaining and creating social bonds.
